A unique name given to a member of a Greek organization as a different identity. Nicknames may be identical across organizations, but not within organizations. Depending on the organization, nicknames serve different functions, and the meaning behind the nicknames are usually only known by members within the organization. An individual may choose to disclose the meaning of his or her nickname.
Usage
The term is used primarily in the Multicultural Greek Council and National Pan-Hellenic communities. It is used both in informal and formal contexts as well as in spoken word and written text.
Example Sentences
