Noun (plural)

Description

A term referring to students studying in Bienen, Northwestern’s School of Music.

Etymology

Derived from Henry and Leigh Bienen School of Music. The school was renamed in 2008 to honor Northwestern University's President from 1995~2009, Henry Bienen, and his wife (senior lecturer at Northwestern's School of Law), Leigh Bienen[1].

Example Sentence

I'm a proud PA to these jumping Biens!

Speech Community

Primarily used by Bienen undergraduates (either to refer to themselves or each other).

Other Spelling/Variations

  • Bien (sing.)
  • Beans (pl.)
  • Bean (sing.)

Note: “Biens” is sometimes used interchangeably with “Beans” (or “Bean” for singular) because they share the same pronunciation, while “Beans“ also simultaneously refers to the famous art structure, “The Bean”[2], located in Chicago (popular leisure destination for Northwestern students; about half an hour away from Evanston by car).
