Description

A Step, or stepping is a form of percussive dance that many Greek organizations have in which the individual's body is used as an instrument to produce rhythms and sounds through a mixture and variety of steps, claps, and spoken word.

Etymology

Stepping has its beginnings in the mid-1900s in competitive schoolyard song and dance rituals in historically Black fraternities and sororities as a link to African tribal-dance. Over time, other cultural fraternities and sororities also adopted the tradition of stepping. [1]
