Description
The modified Gothic structure on south campus that currently is home to several distinctive collections: the Art Library, the Charles Deering McCormick Library of Special Collections, the Music Library, and the University Archives.[1] It is connected to University Library on the first level by the Music Stacks and on third level through the Ver Steeg Lounge. Events and collection exhibits are offered in Deering and open to the general public throughout the year.[2]
History
Deering Library was designed by James Gamble Rogers, modeled after King’s College Chapel in Cambridge, England.[1] It was constructed in 1933 out of Wisconsin Lannon stone, Indiana Bedford limestone, Briar Hill sandstone, Winona travertine, granite, and concrete and served as the main campus library after Lunt until 1970, when the University Library was built.[1][3]
