Description

Founded in 2014, In Our Nature is Northwestern University's very first environmental magazine. It is an online publication that is designed to educate and engage students in the environment through coverage that is both interesting and informative, but not too technical. One of the main goals of In Our Nature is to make environmental issues accessible and non-intimidating to students, a goal that is achieved through a wide variety of coverage of different student groups, events, and general environmentally-related news in the Northwestern, Evanston, or Chicago communities. Although this online magazine tries to remain campus-based, environmental issues are sometimes covered on a global scale. If so, In Our Nature always tries to tie global issues back into the Northwestern community.

Usage

1. This term is used by many members of the Northwestern community, particularly environmental groups and those interested and involved in journalism, and can be both spoken and written.
2. This abbreviation is used by the editorial board and other staff members of In Our Nature. It is both spoken and written.

Etymology

Established in 2014, In Our Nature was originally called NU Green Mag. Although the co-founders knew they did not want to keep this name forever, it was the easiest way to refer to themselves in the initial stages of creating this online magazine. In trying to keep with the theme of the environment, one of the co-founders suggested using "In Our Nature" as the title of the magazine, at which point it was unanimously decided that that would be the name of their magazine.
