Description
This word is an abbreviation of “Northwestern University Basketball Band," used by members of the band to refer to themselves in shorthand. It probably came about for simplicity and because it is similar to the abbreviation for the marching band as a whole (NUMB). Membership in NUBB is not exclusive to members of NUMB; undergraduate and graduate students across the university are encouraged to join.[1]
NUBB performs at all home men's and women's basketball games, with an A Band and a B Band alternating games. The band also travels with the teams to the Men's and Women's B1G Basketball Tournaments and any post-season tournaments, including the NCAA Tournament and the NIT Tournament. The band is led by a variety of conductors, including Director of Athletic Bands Dan Farris and various graduate students.

Usage
Primarily used by members of NUMB and affiliated faculty, as well as other students who decide to join. Many students refer to the organization as "basketball band" instead.
