Travel Letter
Part of Speech
Noun
Pronunciation
[trahvl / letə^r ]
Definition
Letters created by the athletic academic department that outline all of the potential tournaments a student-athlete may attend in a given quarter, including place and dates. This letter is given to the professors/TAs of each course the student-athlete is taking for that quarter in order to notify the professor of any potential absences/missed in class assignments. These letters are given to the professors in the beginning of the quarter so the professor is aware for the future of the class. This also helps for the student-athlete and professor to set up makeup assignments or tests to be taken on the road. It is required that the student athlete deliver these letters to their professors.
Example Sentence
I've got to stay after class for a couple of minutes to give the professor my travel letter.
Why It's Wild
This is a method/tool used by the student- athlete community at Northwestern in order to foster communication between the student-athlete and professor and to facilitate an understanding of the overlap of the athletic and academic schedule in advance of the conflict.
