Part of Speech

Proper Noun

Pronunciation

[wɑɪldsɑɪd]

['wild sid]

Description

The official student section of Northwestern Athletics.[1] It can be used to refer to the student section in general at Northwestern sporting events, and it is also an official student organization with an executive board and various committees. All Northwestern sporting events are free for undergraduate students with a WildCard, so everyone can be a part of Wildside. During football games, members of the Wildside organization lead the rest of the student section in cheers, games, and growling, sometimes collaborating with NUMB.

There is also a Northwestern Student Rewards app that is affiliated with Wildside and allows students to earn points for attending Northwestern sporting events. Points may then be redeemed for various awards such as gift certificates, Northwestern apparel, and even a personalized jersey.[2]

Usage

The proper name "Wildside" is usually used to refer to the student organization and its formal structure. At games themselves, students often just say they are sitting in "the student section," though by doing so they are a part of Wildside.
